In The Thing Around Your Neck (published in 2009); Chimamanda Adichie explores on not only Nigeria but also on American ways of life. She used a twelve dazzling stories to explore on the ties that bind men and women, parents and children, Africa and the United States.
In “A Private Experience,” We can see a fight in the faith of a Muslim woman who hid with a medical student during a violent riot. Moreso, In “Tomorrow is Too Far,” a woman disclosed a disastrous secret that surrounds her brother’s death. The protagonist young mother of “Imitation” finds her comfortable life in Philadelphia at risk when she realized that her husband is now living with his mistress. The story depicts the loneliness of a Nigerian girl who moved to America but didn’t find it accomodating as she had expected.
